Haiti Volunteer Management Coordinator

General Responsibilities

·       Fields volunteer teams into the EMH priority and project sites.

·       Coordinates logistics and materials on the ground for volunteer teams in collaboration with the EMH.

·       Itinerate after 6 months.

Development of Volunteer Opportunities

·       Collaborate with EMH to evaluate volunteer projects and plans for UMVIM service.

·       Visit EMH priority sites to assess for materials, volunteer orientation, and housing.

·       Collaborate with project sites to accommodate volunteers in the community when possible.

·       Keep accurate information and maintain calendar of all scheduled teams through US office.

·       Develop orientation plan and materials for volunteer teams.

·       Make arrangements for safe and effective service settings.

Management of Volunteers

·       Assure the volunteers and teams are assisted in arrival, accommodations, orientation and service:

o      Schedule work and non-work activities prior to team’s arrival  and give a copy to project hosts, interpreters and drivers even if it will change during the team’s stay in Haiti.

o      Arrange material delivery and security on-site prior to team’s arrival at work site.

o      Arrange pick-up at the airport

o      General orientation given when team arrives prior to initial visit to host work site.

o      Debrief team before they depart and evaluate the host work site to determine if the accommodation is handling of the team (i.e. Are volunteers showing signs of illness? Are volunteers eating the food? Are there problems that need to be communicated?)

o      Address any concerns or problems as they arise.

Characteristics

·       UMVIM team leader trained with team experience in Haiti.

·       French and Creole language skills.

·       Must be able to facilitate volunteers and encourage relationships

·       Construction knowledge

·       Computer knowledge

·       Organized

·       Adaptability to changing situations

·       Cordial, gracious, cooperative and helpful

·       Ability to be firm, when appropriate

·       Willingness to listen
