CONNECT, a United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Southeast Jurisdiction annual event, allows participants to share experiences from their short-term mission trips, gain insight and resources from a variety of workshops, network with domestic and international projects and missionaries, and worship together during inspiring sessions that incorporate a diverse speakers and venues.

If you’ve never been on any kind of mission trip, CONNECT is a great place to meet experienced leaders, learn skills, gain knowledge, find projects, or just ask questions. Teams, individuals, medical, disaster — whatever your interest — CONNECT is the place to begin or enhance your mission
experience!

Speaker Biographies

Zambian Vocal Group- The Zambian Vocal Group comes from the country of Zambia in the south-central region of the vast continent of Africa.  Raised in the small community of Kalingalinga, these young men faced a childhood where poverty, disease, and tribal divisions were commonplace. The Zambian Vocal Group was united through their common desire to serve and praise the Lord with music. 

Jorge Acevedo - Jorge is the lead Pastor at Grace Church in Cape Coral Florida. He is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree.  Jorge serves on the Southeastern Jurisdiction and Florida Conference Episcopal Committees.  He is also on the Board of Directors of the Mission Society and First Choice Pregnancy Center of Cape Coral.  Jorge co- authored The Heart of Youth Ministry with Hule Goddard.   


Omar Alvarado- Omar, wife Ruth and daughter Jasmina live in Leon, Nicaragua where Omar has served as the Executive Director of El Ayudante in Nicaragua since 2003.  El Ayudante is partnering with the Nicaraguan people to transform their nation by providing humanitarian and spiritual aid.  Since El Ayudante began receiving short term mission teams in Sept 2002, thousands of Volunteers in Mission team members have made a tremendous difference in this second poorest country in the western hemisphere.  

Clint Rabb- The Rev. Clinton Rabb, a member of the Southwest Texas Conference, was recently named as the new head of the Mission Volunteers.  Rev. Rabb has been with Global Ministries since 1995, most recently as an executive for special initiatives in the Evangelization and Church Growth unit. During a span of almost 20 years as a pastor and chaplain in Texas, Rabb was engaged in a range of Volunteers In Mission teams both domestically and internationally.   

Denise Honeycutt-Denise is an ordained elder in the Virginia Conference and serves as the conference Director of Mission.  In addition, she serves as the conference Secretary of Global Ministries and the staff person for the Commission on the Status and Role of Women.  Denise has also served as the Southeastern Jurisdictional Mission Interpreter and as a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries; furthermore served as the dean of students and taught theology and biblical studies at Banyam Theological Seminary in Bambur Nigeria, West Africa.
