Ecuador Medical Team - Oct
22-29, 2006
There are openings on a medical
team to Cayambe, Ecuador Oct 22-29,
2006. Needed are: a pharmacist, and
dental assistant; all other medical
professionals welcome. The team
currently has 17 members with room
for up to 5 more persons. Sponsored
by Wesley United Methodist Church
Palm Bay, Florida, and SIFAT.
Approximate cost is $1500.

Spanish Immersion Team to
Guatemala - Nov. 11-26, 2006
The annual UMVIM Spanish Language
Immersion team will be returning to
Guatemala Nov. 11-26. The team
will be studying Spanish in Xela at
the Sakribal language school,
staying in a Guatemalan home, and
using the new language skills in
interaction with the local church
and community. The team will
be led by long time UMVIM team
leader and student of Spanish, John

PRIORITY NEED - MEDICAL
PERSONNEL - TAIAMA MEDICAL CLINIC,
TAIAMA, SIERRA LEONE, WEST AFRICA
A Volunteer in Mission team is
forming to return for a fourth
year to the Taiama Methodist
Medical Clinic in the hinterland
of Sierra Leone, West Africa.
The team will depart December
31st, 2006 and return January
13th, 2007.A priority need is one
or more physicians and several
nurses to staff the Taiama clinic.
Medical staff triage the
approximately 100 persons seen per
day and treat various acute and
chronic illnesses. Seriously
ill people may be admitted to the
Taiama infirmary or referred to
the Bo Governmental regional
hospital as well as the Kissy
United Methodist Clinic in
Freetown.
Mr. Samuel Pieh, who holds the MPH
degree from the University of
Michigan and resides in Freetown,
Sierra Leone and Dr. Joseph Geary,
UM pastor in Paris, Tennessee are
the co-leaders. In addition
to the medical opportunities, team
members are welcomed to assist
local schools, do construction and
repair work at the clinic, share
their Christian faith in area
churches, participate in a peanut
butter nutrition project for
undernourished children, teach
water treatment and education and
help with a food demonstration
plot.
The cost of the trip is $3000.00
with a $300.00 deposit due now.
Funds may be sent to P.O. Box 25,
Paris, TN 38242 with checks made
out to FUMC and designated for
"Africa VIM." The
cost includes airfare, ground
transportation, food, lodging,
accidental injury reimbursement
insurance, medical emergency
evacuation insurance, VIM
registration and a personal
contribution towards clinic
expenses.
