AFRICA


DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

1.  Project TESOL (The English Speaking School of Lubumbashi) -- Volunteers are needed to teach preschool, elementary and/or junior high students, as appropriate to the needs of the school and the experience of the applicants.  One of the volunteers will also be asked to assist the local teachers through observations, advising and work. Minimum commitment of 6-10 months. School year runs from Sept to early July.  Sept arrival is preferable but not essential. Shared housing with another volunteer is available. A stipend is offered. 2. Jamaa Letu Orphanage, Lubumbashi: help with feeding and care of 50 little girls, assist with homework, teach English, help with daily chores/cleaning, office assistance (computer work, email correspondence, etc.).

The next 3 Projects listed below are UMCOR/NGO related projects (United Methodist Committee on Relief/Non-Governmental Organization). These are secularly oriented humanitarian projects, working with non-Christian faith based communities.

3. Proposal writers: individuals with experience in writing proposals to various donors for the areas of food security, construction and rehabilitation of buildings and roads, ex-combatant reintegration, and education.

4. Agricultural volunteers: individuals with agricultural experience and know-how to work with UMCOR/NGO staff. Assist with current projects and help develop new food security programs.

5. Girl's Mentor Program - Visit UMCOR sponsored, remote village schools. Mentoring teen and pre-teen girls (hygiene, education, etc.).

6. Methodist Mission Station at Mulungwishi - Handyperson/repairs instructor to work with locals and help setup central shop/maintenance area and teach repair techniques.

7.Seminary at Mulungwishi - Pastors to teach at the seminary

8. Technology Institute of Katanga

a. Teachers of computer programming, networking, and basic use

b. Computer repair person/instructor

All the above volunteer placements request that the volunteer be flexible, self-starters, and speak French.  

CAMEROON

Church Project Manager for UMC.  Oversee projects in church and serve as link between church and partner churches in America.  Housing, Meals not provided, cost of $400 a month. Two year stay, start in Sept 07.  English/French preferred.

KENYA

1. Maua Methodist Hospital: physicians to help in a 250-bed hospital in rural Kenya. Short or long term. Pediatrician needed urgently. Living accommodations, small stipend.

2. Alice's Clinic in Kopanga region near Migori - Physician, family or general practitioner to assist and provide instruction to resident nurse.

3.   Project Women and Youth Programmes, Nakaru. Work with women and children in such areas as HIV/AIDS prevention, income generation projects, life skills.

4.   Wesley Mission Dispensary, Nakaru. Attending the patients in the dispensary in andy of the departments. Doctors, nurses, dentist or any medical person would be put to work. (posted August 2006)

5.   United Methodist Orphans Home, Nakaru. Any and all kinds of work with orphans and street children – play, education, life skills. (posted August 2006)  

6. Church planting and growth.  Preach, hold meetings in churches, train pastors.  Organize churches, meetings.  Meals provided. 

LIBERIA

1. Medical facilities need extensive renovation, medical supplies, and volunteers.

2. The United Methodist University in Monrovia: Vice-President for Institutional Development (MA or PhD required), 2-year term; Vice-President for Academic Affairs (PhD required), 2 years or more; volunteer accountant to serve as Comptroller (MA in Accounting required), 2 years or more.

SENEGAL

SOS Dialogue Counseling and Training Center: volunteer to do training in technical or manual work so that people can produce articles to sell for economic self-sufficiency.

SIERRA LEONE

United Methodist Church Health and Maternity Center, Kissy, Freetown: general surgery, obstetrics/gynecological surgery, and general dentistry. At least 2 months. Housing provided.

SOUTH AFRICA

1. African Medical Mission Umtata General Hospital, Umtata, Transkei: orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, occupational therapists.

2. FLOC Pre-school, Johannesburg: volunteers for teaching, staff development, parent education, fundraising, grant writing, and curriculum development.

3. Itipini Community Project, Umtata, Transkei: nurses, social workers, occupational therapists.

4. KHANYISILE, Katlehong: help care for persons with HIV/AIDS, including orphans; type of volunteer work depends on current needs.

SWAZILAND

Volunteer for administration of primary schools, coordination of HIV/AIDS program, and promotion of Volunteers In Mission; help with computer. 6 months to 3 years. Housing and meals provided.

TANZANIA

Methodist Angel House Orphanage, Tarime (near Lake Victoria)

1. House parents - assist with care of 34 children ages 6-16.

2. Project/Orphanage Administrator - administer daily operations of orphanage instructing local staff. To include: finance, purchasing, communications

3. Outreach and Evangelism - Pastor to assist in training and ministry

ZIMBABWE

Africa University, Mutare: university teaching/research/supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students in the following disciplines: agriculture/natural resources, business, education, arts and social sciences, health sciences, and theology; teaching of ESL; librarian; development of student welfare services; some assignments in the General Services, Clinic and Farm areas. Housing provided.

ASIA / PACIFIC


CAMBODIA

1. Teach church school teachers, train people in writing Bible study materials, train youth leaders; stewardship training; teach basic computer skills, accounting skills on a computer, maintenance of computers. Housing provided. Knowledge of Khmer would be helpful.  

2. Community Health and Agricultural Development:  Will work as a hospital liason, training and coaching health volunteers on how to use health volunteers on how to use health services.  Nurse Practicioner, Agriculturalist preferred.  3+ month stay.  Housing provided.  Meals additional.  

3. GBGM Missionary in Cambodia needs volunteer nurse for 6-8 weeks.  Community Health and Agr. Development.  Needs Nurse Practitioner.  Housing and Meals not providd. 

CHINA

The Chinese government prohibits foreigners from engaging in evangelistic activities. United Methodist volunteers are expected to comply with this law.

1. Amity Summer English Program (SEP): volunteers for various provinces to offer English conversation and listening practice as in-service training for Chinese middle school teachers in rural and minority areas. Amity provides the curriculum; volunteers serve in teams of 4 to 6. July 3-August 3, 2005. Accommodations provided.

2. English Training Center, Shenyang: teachers of English. Bachelor's degree required, ESL teaching experience preferred. 1-2 year terms. Housing, small stipend provided.

CENTRAL ASIA

Teachers for the children of Missionaries. Six needed for the 2005-2006 school year beginning in August for multiple grades. School administrator and principal also needed.

FIJI

1. Veilomani Boys Home, Nadi: help local people provide basic skills training in welding, automotive, cabinet making. 9 months minimum. Housing provided.

2. Project Girl's Orphanage, Dilkusha Koro. Help with homework, splay and read stories to the girls, help with basic needs. Minimum commitment of 3-6 months is requested. Local or on-site housing available. (posted June 2006)

INDIA

1. Clara Swain Hospital, Bareilly: physical therapists.

2. Crawford Memorial Hospital, The Methodist Church of India: plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, OBGYN, nurses, public health nurses for 27 locations.

3. Hillcrest School: school nurse.

4. Rural Health Program, The Methodist Church of India: hospital administrator, 1 year;

medical doctor, 1 year.

5. Vellore Hospital, Vellore: long-term medical volunteers (6 months to 1 year). Professionals in Medical, Surgical, Specialties, Computers, Management, Finance, Clergy.

6. Woodstock School: teachers and staff for elementary, middle, and high school; especially need a French teacher and a Chemistry teacher. Semesters are July-Nov. and Jan.-May.  

7. The Shadman Methodist Home in Delhi , India is accepting individuals for any length of time.  Shadman Methodist Home was founded by the Women’s Division of the Methodist Church in India to house girls who need a home, regardless religion, caste, creed, color, or race.  Many of these girls are runaways, children of commercial sex workers, and street children.

JAPAN

1. Fukuno Aoba Preschool and 2 other schools in Toyama Prefecture: preschool teacher to teach English and Western culture for Japanese children ages 4 and 5, and weekly English Bible classes for high school students. Experience in children's education preferred.

2. Kyoai Gakuen, Maebashi, Gumma Prefecture: Junior-senior high school English teacher for 2-year term. TEFL or TESL certification helpful but not required. Also, teach a Bible study class, teach English conversation to elementary students, lead chapel and help with spiritual life retreats. Salary /housing provided, plus round-trip airfare for 2yr volunteers.

3. Toogijuku High School, Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture: high school English teacher for 2- year term. College degree required; English teaching experience preferred. Also, speak in chapel and participate in activities of the Student Christian Association, and supervise club activities when possible. Salary/housing provided, plus round-trip airfare for 2yr volunteers.

4. Joshi Seigakuin, Tokyo: woman teacher for a 2 or 3-year term. Master's degree or ESL major preferred. Also, lead chapel, help with spiritual life retreats, help with clubs and other activities. Salary and housing provided, plus round-trip airfare for 2-year volunteers.  

KOREA

1.  Wesley Mission School: 2 English teachers for Korean children. 1 year, Jan.-Dec. Round trip airfare, furnished apartment, small stipend provided.

2.  Pai Chai University. Daejeon (South of Seoul).  Immediate need for a teacher in Theology Department.  September 08 to June 09.  Deadline for all paperwork mid-June to July, 08.  Possible classes in Missiology, Christian Education, English Bible Study (Sunday School Class) and motivational talks for weekly mandatory chapel.  All classes to be taught in English.  Specific duties to be arranged with individual volunteer.  M.A. required.  TESOL Certification a plus.  Must have minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience.  Must obtain E-1 Korean Visa.  Furnished 2 bedroom apartment and stipend to cover monthly expenses provided. Posting date 5-13-08.

MONGOLIA

Huree Institute of ICT, Ulaanbaatar City: teach 5 majors including Electronic Engineering, Information, Computer Applications, Internet Business, and English.

NEPAL

Volunteers must serve with the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) for 6 months or longer; 1 or 2 year commitments are preferred.

1. Primary/Elementary Teachers: teach 5- to 11-year-old children of UMN expatriates. Location is likely to be outside of Kathmandu. Requires formal teaching qualification and some experience.

2. Secondary Teachers: teach 11- to 18-year-old expatriate children in Kathmandu International Study Centre. Short term, but may be extended. Ideally applicants would teach a combination of subjects, preferably one subject up to Grade 12 / A level and other to Grade 10 / IGCSE: English, Maths and Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Education, German, Art, Business Studies, Religious Education, French, Geography, History, Information Technology. Also Hostel Assistant, Administrator.

3. Teachers: versatile, resourceful, patient teachers to share skills with Nepali teachers. Long term (2-4 years). Professional teaching qualifications and experience.

4. Computer Lecturers: lecturer in Computer Sciences at Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering level; lecturer in Computer Sciences, Math, and Statistics Curriculum. Location: Pokhara. 1-3 year commitments.

5. Various Hospital Posts: within UMN's three hospitals, volunteers with hospital management/ administration experience, general/orthopedic surgeons primarily to teach Nepali doctors, GPs with obstetrics, pediatrician, OPD doctors, dentist, lab technician, pharmacist, senior nursing tutors to teach in the Tansen Nursing School. These roles are based in Tansen, Kathmandu, or Okhaldhunga, and the duration of posts may vary.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA

1. New Ireland Region (near Konos): doctor for 36-bed rural hospital, currently staffed by nurses only. No lab, no X-ray. Doctor would also visit rural aid stations periodically to supervise the level of care. Medical degree, current license required. 9 months minimum, 1 year preferred.

2. Papuan Mainland Region: long-term doctor to assist at two rural aid posts staffed by community health care workers, rotating regularly around the region. Medical degree, current license required. 9-12 months.

3. Salamo Community Health Workers Training Center: physician or nurse to provide assistance to local persons leading training in basic health care. Medical or nursing degree, current license required. 9-12 months.

4. Teachers of all subjects and levels for church-run primary and secondary schools in remote villages. Housing provided.

THAILAND

Ban Nongpuentag School, Aphur Gangkrajan, Petchburi Province - teach English in a primary and secondary school. Graduate degree preferred but not required. Very rural setting.

TONGA

1. Vaiola Hospital, Nuku'alofa: surgeon, ER doctor, OR nurse, anesthesiologist, pediatrician, nursing school instructors, mechanic to repair and maintain various pieces of medical equipment. Doctors, 2 months. Nursing school instructor, 9 months. Mechanic, 1-2 years.

2. Village Mission Clinic - Primary care physician to work in two rural clinics on a rotation with two other physicians. Housing and small stipend provided.

 

CARIBBEAN

BAHAMAS

Bahamas Conference, The Methodist Church: volunteer pastors for 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month terms in Andros, North Eleuthera, Bimini, and Inagua. Housing and stipend provided.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

GRENADA

Pastors - counseling, visitation of the sick, ministering to families, preaching. Min. 2 months

HAITI

1. Individual volunteers placed in consultation with the Volunteers In Mission Coordinators.

2. Haitian Artists for Peace International.  Volunteer needed June 21-December 21, 2007  Basic bookkeeping, filing, spiritual mentoring, helping to establish product systems.  Preferred applicant will have understanding of design basics and embroidery experience.  

ST. VINCENT and GRENADINES (West Indies)

Pastoral work (Circuit ministry) - pastoral responsibility for four congregations. Will work in a circuit with other ministers. Prefer at least 6 month commitment.

COSTA RICA

EL SALVADOR

1. Project Habitat for Humanity, San Salvador. Campaign is to raise funds to build 500 new homes in the next five years. Volunteer will research, compile and utilize information on religious organizations in El Salvador and the United States in order to raise funds for this campaign, monitoring campaign results and maintaining the campaign webpage on the HFH El Salvador website. Computer and communication skills a must. Minimum commitment of 6 months is requested. Desired start time of August 2006. (posted June 2006)

GUATEMALA

1. Project Salud y Paz, Quetzaltenango - Request for an assistant in the administration of two medical clinics and meet/travel with short term volunteer in mission teams who are in the country. Living expenses will be provided. Minimum commitment of one year is requested. (posted June 2006)

2. Project Salud y Paz - assist administrator with oversight of personnel, volunteer teams, clinic operations, community health education, and control of medical supplies.

3. English classes for children and adults, Quetzaltenango and Chichicastenango: teach English to groups of children and adults. Some Spanish required. Minimum 3 months.

4. Computer lab for a grade school, Quetzaltenango: teach computers to a group of students 8-12 years old in a public school which does not have resources to pay for a teacher's salary. Fluent Spanish required. Minimum 3 months.

HONDURAS

1. La Ceiba: medical personnel. Visits must be cleared ahead of time with Ministry of Public Health.

2.   Project Send Hope’s House of Hope, Puerto Lempira. Home for partially physically disabled children and malnourished babies.  Someone is needed to love and supervise the children, help with school work, do some household tasks / in other words a mom or dad is needed!  Spanish helpful but not required.
 

EUROPE

CZECH REPUBLIC

1. Jihlava United Methodist Church: teach English conversation.

2. Litomerice United Methodist Church: teach English, evangelization, small manual work.

3. Plzen 3 United Methodist Church: teach English to church members, Bible study in English, minor repairs in church facilities (painting, cleaning).

4. Trebon United Methodist Church: teach English, assist with evangelization, work with

children. 2-3 months. Housing provided.

5. Vrsovice UMC, Praha (Prague): teach English, conversation, music, lead a home group.

6. Tachov, West Bohemia : person to teach English to townspeople on invitation of the local Methodist church as an outreach project. No special degree necessary - experience teaching ESL would be helpful but not required. Position open to a single person or married couple. Requested for Oct - Dec 2005. ESTONIA

Children Center Lighthouse, Tallinn: help educate children and youth in an informal evironment; help with supervision. Minimal Estonian or Russian a plus but not required. Requires prior experience working with youth. Housing provided. 3-6 months. Dentists are also needed in the area.

FRANCE

1. Centre de Vacances Landersen, Sondernach (near Munster): do the dishes, clean the rooms, help with preparing the food, help with the children{s camps, help welcome the clients. French helpful but not required. At least 6 months, preferably beginning in April. Housing and meals provided.

2. Pordatach, Chatillon Saint Jean: help renovate an old French farm into a small retreat place for pastors and missionaries. Some French helpful.

GEORGIA, REPUBLIC OF

The projects listed below are UMCOR/NGO related projects (United Methodist Committee

on Relief/Non-Governmental Organization). These are secularly oriented humanitarian

projects, working with non-Christian faith based communities.

1. Tbilisi House: Teach English. Skills required: English teachers, ESL instructors, teachers willing to learn how to teach basic English as a Second Language. 2-4 months.

2. Zugdidi Youth House: "Volunteers for the Best Education" - teachers for English, radio journalism, and drama classes/activities. Experience preferred. Work with a mixture of local and refugee students in both free classes and fee for service classes. 2 months or longer.

3. Tbilisi Youth House: an individual with knowledge of how to organize a volunteer program for youth is needed to establish a permanent Tbilisi Youth House Volunteer Program. Skills needed: organizational ability, "people skills," good assessment experience, willingness to help raise minimum funds to keep the program going year round. Expectations include general service projects for youth, establishment of intern possibilities, and building in Public Relations techniques for the Tbilisi city community.

LATVIA

Cesis United Methodist Church Building Renovation: individuals with skills in all aspects of building and remodeling; persons with building expertise to oversee the work of Volunteers in Mission teams.

LITHUANIA

1. Lithuania United Methodist Church, Birzai Reconstruction Project, Birzai: read architect's plans and coordinate work teams on construction project.

2. Lithuania United Methodist Church: ordained clergy person to assist with pastoral work (worship and tasks as determined by the Lithuanian UMC). As soon as possible, 3 months to one year. Translator available, at volunteer's expense.

POLAND

1. United Methodist churches (Elk, Elawa, Krakow, and others): teachers of English. Knowledge of Polish language not necessary. Good living conditions, small stipend.

2. United Methodist English Language College, Ostrada: teach English to advanced English students ages 14-50 (maximum 14 per class). 1-year term, Sept. 1 - June 30. Apartment provided; small stipend.

ROMANIA 
Deborah House Center, Villiage of Giarmata
Christian homes for girls who are orphaned or abandoned and/or rescued from abusive circumstances
Activities during week include:
Work projects at Deborah House and for the Village of Giarmata, crafts/Bible stories/Christian witness/fellowship with Deborah girls & staff, spending day at Recas public orphanage/school for special needs children - witnessing, fellowship and singing with the children

SLOVAKIA

Piestany: help plant a United Methodist Church in Piestany by working with the youth, inviting people to church, preaching and leading worship, and helping the pastor organize activities. Ability to play a musical instrument and/or lead music, dramas, or puppetry would be a plus. 1 year or more.

SPAIN

Misión Urbana, Barcelona: pastoral counselors, Spanish required.

Organization and operation of a new free medical clinic and community program. Medical background - would like a commitment of a year or more.  

4. Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca: Hogar Estudiantil Indigena.  Tutoring after school, supervise homework, teach English, help in the daily tasks of the home, teach computer programs.  Basic Spanish almost necessary, 6 month stay.  Housing provided.  Meals provided at cost.

1. English Bilingual Program

b. Person to accompany bilingual teachers, talking with them and the children in English. 2. Office of Promotion, Evangelical Methodist Church of Bolivia: find funds to finance and set up a web page, assist in coordination of Volunteers In Mission teams and individuals, maintain donor data base, general office duties. These duties do not require Spanish language skills but do require good English skills. Conversational Spanish is needed for communication with Bolivian church workers. 1 year.

BRAZIL

Volunteers are placed in consultation with the UMVIM coordinator and local Methodist churches and institutions. Medical volunteers work with the Evangemed mobile clinic, attending people in small towns and villages, working through the local Methodist Church.

CHILE

1. EMANA (Extensión Metodista al NiZo Andino), Iquique: dentist and psychologist to work in clinic at Kusayapu Agricultural Institute. Proficiency in Spanish. 1 year preferred, shorter terms acceptable. Housing and meals provided.

2. Escuela Agrícola "El Vergel," Angol: nurse or paramedic to serve boarding students. 1 year preferred, shorter terms acceptable. Housing and meals provided.

3. Escuela Agrícola "La Granja," Nueva Imperial: nurse or paramedic to serve boarding students. 1 year preferred, shorter terms aceptable. Housing and meals provided.

4. Institución Sweet and Colegio Metodista,Santiago: teachers (physical education, recreation, English).
